Philips Zoom whitening

1,2 Smile is an approved Zoom Centre and we offer this teeth whitening procedure which is available in over 80 countries but originated in the USA. Zoom Whitening offers a fast and easy solution for anyone looking for good results. Teeth can be whitened by more than 9 shades in an hour, but we need a little bit more of your time as there is quite a lot of preparation to do before the treatment can start.

No harmful UV rays are used – a gentle LED light is used. The Zoom Smile gel contains 15% peroxide (compared to 35% of other light-activated procedures). Over 98% of the patients say they are very happy with the results, which last for several years

Wear and tear

Wear and tear refers to the loss of tooth substance by means other than dental caries or dental trauma. It is a completely normal physiological process that occurs throughout life and is a very common condition that occurs in approximately 97% of the population. The three major contributing factors leading to wear and tear are attrition, abrasion and erosion. In most cases, the wear and tear is a result of the combination of these factors.

Variation in length

Variation in length varies depending on the individual. The tooth size in one jaw may not be in harmony the with tooth size in the other jaw. Crowding may be more likely to appear in jaws having large teeth than in those with small teeth where, instead, there may be a tendency to over spacing.

Spaces

A diastema is a space or gap between two teeth. It appears most often between the two upper front teeth. However, gaps can occur between any two teeth.

Wear and grinding

Bruxism is the medical term for grinding the teeth and clenching the jaw. People sometimes grind their teeth without causing any symptoms or problems. Regular and persistent teeth grinding can cause jaw pain and discomfort and wears down your teeth. It can also cause headaches and earache.

Open bite

A condition where the teeth in your top jaw do not touch the teeth in your bottom whilst your mouth is closed. An open bite can be caused by thumb sucking or tongue thrusting.

Malformed teeth

An abnormally shaped tooth is any tooth that has an irregular shape.
The appearance of normal teeth varies, especially the molars. Abnormally shaped teeth can result from many different conditions. Specific diseases can affect tooth shape, tooth colour, and when they grow in. Some diseases can lead to absence of teeth.

Gummy smile

A condition in which gingival tissue is located more on the cervical third of the crowns than is normal, resulting in teeth that appear shorter and “gummy”.

Discoloured teeth

Discoloured teeth is an abnormal tooth colour, hue or translucency. External discolouration is accumulation of stains on the tooth surface. Internal discoloration is due to absorption of pigment particles into the tooth structure.

Crowding

Crowding is defined as a discrepancy between tooth size and jaw size that results in a misalignment of the tooth row. Proposed reasons for crowding include excessively large teeth, small jaws and/or a combination of both.

Chipped teeth

A chipped tooth is a damaged tooth due to a small part of the actual tooth being broken off.

Ankylosed teeth

Ankylosed teeth refers to a fusion of teeth to bone. The condition is diagnosed with radiographs (X-rays), which show loss of the periodontal ligament space and blending of the root with the bone. Clinically the tooth sounds solid when tapped compared to the dull, cushioned sound from normal teeth. Ankylosis of teeth is uncommon, especially in permanent teeth.

Lingual braces

Lingual braces are placed behind the teeth (by the tongue and palate), rather than in front, and therefore offer a great cosmetic alternative for those who want their teeth straightened, without the braces showing.

The process for lingual braces involves taking an impression of the teeth, which is then sent to a dental laboratory and used to create customized brackets. The process takes about six weeks and, once complete, allows the orthodontist to use a specific process to cement the braces onto the back surfaces of your teeth.
